Staurastrum maamense W. Archer 1869

First described by Archer (1869: 200): a presentation and description given to the Dublin Microscopical Society Meeting. West, West & Carter (1923: 75) give few records for Britain, concentrated in the north-west.
Cell dimensions: L: 32-43 µm; B: 30-35 µm; Is: 10-12.5 µm.
Found in the benthos and plankton of slightly acidic lochs and moorland pools. A rare Atlantic-Arctic species.
