Euastrum neogutwinskii M.C. van Westen & P.F.M. Coesel 2020

Formerly known as Euastrum binale var. gutwinskii (Schmidle) Homfeld (1929), the present authors regard it as sufficiently distinct from E. binale to raise it to species rank. Semicells roughly trapezoid with the basal two-thirds twin-lobed. The apical section in convex with an obvious cleft. Sinus deep and closed for the most part. Chloroplast axile with a single pyrenoid.
Cell dimensions: L: 20-30 µm; B: 14-22 µm; Is: 5-7 µm; Th: 12-15 µm; L/B: 1.20-1.45.
A relatively common species of acidic habitats such as moorland pools and Sphagnum bogs.
