Staurastrum bicorne P. Hauptfleisch 1888

First described and illustrated by Hauptfleisch (1888: 95, pl. 3: 21, 24, 27). Roy (1893: 179) recorded it as extremely rare, only finding it at the margins of Birsemore Loch, Aberdeen, Scotland.
Cell dimensions: L: 52-60 µm; B: 72-100 µm; Is: 10-13.4 µm.
Since Roy’s time this taxon remains extremely rare. An acidophile, found in moorland bogs and vegetated loch-margins.
