Phylum: Charophyta   Family: Desmidiaceae

Cosmarium neonotabile M.C. van Westen & P.F.M. Coesel 2021

There are several crenate species to cause possible confusion, and it needs to be carefully compared with C. cedercreutzii R.L. Grönblad 1921 and the recently described C. pseudosaxicola Kouwets 2025.
Cell dimensions: L: 27.4-31.9 µm; B: 20.3-21.6 µm; Is: 12-12.9 µm; Th: 14.7-15.7; L/B: 1.36-1.48.
It occurs with moss on wet rocks and similar oligotrophic habitats. In the Netherlands it occurs in shallow rain-puddles, both in grassland and on sandy paths. Distribution is little known due to earlier taxonomic confusion.
