Closterium moniliferum J. Ralfs 1848
Similar to Closterium submoniliferum but that species is larger, although there is overlap in dimensions. That latter species also tends to show the faint striations better.
Cell dimensions: L: 200-290 µm; B: 35-50 µm; Ap: 6-11 µm; Arc: 82-125°; L/B: 5-7.
A species that prefers circumneutral waters, although it has been found in more acidic habitats. In the Outer Hebrides it is found in shallow loch-margins but rarely recorded.
