Euastrum bidentatum C. Nägeli 1894

Semicells sub-pyramidal; sinus deep and closed for the most part, basal lobe broadly rounded, sometimes emarginate with small granules, central lobe entire occasionally with a granule. Apex convex with a deep incision, which can be slightly open or closed. The apical angles have granular projections. Semicells have a broad central inflation and above it is two scrobiculae. Chloroplast axile with one pyrenoid. Zygospore globose with blunt, digitate, extensions.
Cell dimensions: L: 40-60 µm; B: 30-40 µm; Is: 8.8-12 µm; Th: 21-23 µm; L/B: 1.40-1.65. Zygospore: minus protrusions: 30-40 µm; overall: 48-53 µm.
Nägeli (1849: 122, pl. 7D: 1) first described the species from small swamps in Switzerland. In the Outer Hebrides it is well distributed in slightly acidic habitats.
