Euastrum ampullaceum J. Ralfs 1848
Ralfs first described this species (1848: 83, pl. 13: 4). Semicells roughly pyramidal, apical lobe dilate, with a deep and closed median incision. Below the constricted apex is a small but prominent lobe. Sinus is deep and closed for the most part. Basal angles broadly rounded. At the base of the semicells are three protuberances, the middle one is twin-lobed. Near the centre of the semicells are three scrobiculae arranged in a rough triangle.
Cell Dimensions: L: 85-110 µm; B: 50-65 µm; Is: 14-17.5 µm; Th: 34-42 µm; L/B: 1.55-1.85.
Found in acidic moorland boggy pools. Infrequently recorded.
