Cosmarium multiconfusum F.A.C. Kouwets 2025

A characteristic shape similar to the doubtful Cosmarium phaseolus complex. However, this newly described species lacks the central protuberance usually associated with C. phaseolus. The author collected his samples from “a pond with luxurious vegetation of Charophytes”.
Cell dimensions: L: 27-4-29.1 µm; B: 27.9-28.4 µm; Is: 7.6-9.1 µm; Th: 16.6-17 µm; L/B: 0.99-1.04.
Being newly described its distribution in the Outer Hebrides is unknown. The only current site is the shallow end of a stony loch with neutral acidity. The flora comprised Eleocharis palustris, Equisetum fluviatile and Ranunculus flammula.
