This species is similar to H. rectum but generally larger and attenuates to the apices a little more markedly and has a hardly discernible, if at all, basal inflation.
Single cell dimensions: L: 175 µm; B: 11 µm; L/B: 16.
Just one Outer Hebridean record as of 2025. Possible confused with other members of the genus and misidentified. Found in moorland pools and bogs.
