Tortitaenia bahusiensis (O. Nordstedt & J. Lütkemüller) P.F.M. Coesel 2002

First described and illustrated by Nordstedt & Lütkemüller (1895: 51, pl. 2: 1-18) AS Spirotaenia bahusiensis. More recently, Coesel (2002: 72) moved it to Tortitaenia. The axile chloroplast is spiralled and has reddish poles.
Cell dimensions: L: 30-56 µm; B: 9-11 µm; L/B: 3.5-6.0. (Daughter cells are smaller.)
A rarely recorded species found in habitats that dry-out periodically, such as wet rocks and shallow pools.
