Roya closterioides P.F.M. Coesel 2007

A recently described and illustrated species Coesel (2007: 9, figs. 19-21), which, as the name suggests, has an affinity with small species of Closterium. It differs in having a single chloroplast with a notch in the centre where the nucleus is situated.
Cell dimensions: L: 60-120 µm; B: 2.5-3.5 µm; L/B: 28-33.
Rarely recorded but such slender cells are easily overlooked. Found in acidic habitats such as moorland pools and bogs.
