Euastrum coeselii F.A.C. Kouwets 1987

First described and illustrated by Kouwets (1987: 213, pl. 7: 20) and named in honour Peter F. M. Coesel, a Dutch phycologist and desmid-specialist. Semicells roughly trapeziform, basal angles quadrate, upper lateral concave, apex truncate with a central shallow notch. Sinus deep and closed. Both basal and apical angle can support pseudogranules. Chloroplast axile with one pyrenoid.
Cell dimensions: L: 15-22 µm; B: 13-18 µm; Is: 3.4-5.5 µm; Th: c.11 µm; L/B: 1.15-1.25.
Infrequently found in mesotrophic habitats such as moorland pools and fens.
