Gonatozygon kinahanii (W. Archer) L. Rabenhorst 1868

First described and illustrated by Archer (1858: 250, pl. 21: 1-4) under his new genus Leptocystinema as L. kinahani. Later moved by Rabenhorst (1868: 156) to Gonatozygon. Long-parallel cells with bluntly rounded apices. They contain terminal vacuoles with a few crystals. The cell-wall is smooth. It can be confused with some species of Mougeotia.
Cell dimensions: L: 150-500 µm; B: 10-20 µm; L/B: 12-36.
Brook & Williamson (2010: 127) describe it as fairly widely distributed in loch and pond margins, in acidic and alkaline habitats.
