Actinotaenium silvae-nigrae (A. Rabanus) F.A.C. Kouwets & P.F.M. Coesel 1984
First described by Rabanus (1923: 229) as Penium silvae-nigrae. Later transferred to Actinotaenium by Kouwets & Coesel (1984: 559).Cells elliptic with a slight median constriction. Cell wall striate with longitudinal series of fine pores.
Cell dimensions: L: 45-70 µm; B: 20-28 µm; L/B: 1.9-2.5.
An oligotrophic species found in acidic habitats such as moorland bogs and pools. Quite common.
